Unlike many other digital currencies, Monero has no connection with Bitcoin as it was launched on the Bytecoin basis on April 18, 2014. It runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, and FreeBSD. Originally its name was BitMonero, but 5 days after the launch the community has decided to shorten it to just Monero.
In order to exchange Bitcoin to Monero, you need to set up a wallet for both of these currencies first.
For Monero, download the wallet from their official website:
For Bitcoin, we recommend to use the wallet named Jaxx.
